Did you manage to get some color images with your 383L+ in the meantime? How do you like it?

I'm looking into the same thing myself right now. Got a Cannon 1100D which makes quite good images, but would want to get just a step higher. While the Atik 383L+ has a reasonable chip size and would better fit to the focal lengths I have used with the Canon, the real state-of-the-art seem to be the The Atik 460 or 490. I would just worry about the smaller chip size. Would be great for the Ring nebula or the like or planets, but otherwise I wouldn't know. They seem to be much better in terms of noise and sensitivity, though. What made you go for the 383L+? Any images yet?! I'm quite curious!

In reply to <a href="https://allans-stuff.com/2014/03/25/atik-383l-mono-ccd/#comment-11">David Puglia</a>.

A mono CCD will, from what I have seen, always outperform an equal pixel/sensitivity/sensor size one shot color, especially a DSLR. That being said one has to consider the extra time, expense and learning curve to know if it is the right choice for them.

So would you recommend a mono CCD over the new Nikon 810A ? I'm looking to move from a D800 to something better suited to deep space imaging...I have been looking at the Atik Camera line
